Well the great 08 VP debate is now no more than a memory. An odd and somewhat blotchy memory, but none the less just a memory. There was no terrible quicksand episode that I had looked for. No major train-wrecks to speak of. Neither of the candidates tripped on the carpet.
By the end of the night Palin did not go down in flames and Biden did not run off at the mouth.
I have read several Republican blogs claiming that Palin won the debate. I would like to know what they are basing that claim on. Is it the fact that she didn’t go down in flames? Is it the fact that she deflected enough questions that she had no idea how to answer and reiterated the others? Is it that she was cute and got plenty of “you betcha” and other Palin catch phrases in? Or was it more the case that her handlers and coaches had her set and ready to quickly push through her monologue?
If you watched carefully you noticed that she did allot of fast drawn shallow breathing as she spoke. You normally see this done when you have been taught or have memorized a speech or monologue and you are trying to spill all your information from memory as fast as you can before you loose your concentration. This is indicative of someone having been coached on an answer that they themselves do not perceive as a personal thought. If it were a personal thought there would be a slower more controlleddelivery. I will give credit though. She did better than on any of the interviews I have seen. This is a true testament to Palin and McCain’s handlers, coaches and staff They can take a bumbling idiot and pull off a quick and intense week of training and make her seem semi intelligent. Nice work guys, take a few bucks out of the campaign contributions.
