Just what is in store for whomever wins the Election?

Just what is in store for whomever wins the Presidential Election?

Who ever wins the Election when the dust settles tomorrownight will be the single heir to an inheritance of one huge mess. They will face challenges on a monolithic scale. They will be faced with restoring growth to a faltering economy the likes of which our country has not seen since the dark days before World War II. They will inherit a military fighting wars on two battle fields. One in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan. They will be faced with a budget deficit running close to $500 billion and growing daily. They will be forced by the American people to bring our country back to the figure head status we once held and to move forward as the world’s lone true superpower.

Determining a successor to the highly unpopular President George W. Bush was a high priority with many of the citizens of the United States. Millions of Americans have already voted in the early voting rounds. Election officials are looking forward to Tuesdays long lines at polling stations. The nation is expecting a record turnout which should easily eclipse the 2004 vote total of more than 121 million.

The thing which has divided our nation now for 2 long years is finally at hand. Over the next few days and weeks we will undoubtedly hear complaints the likes of which we have heard many times before. “Not my candidate”, “Not my party” but I suspect that those will be few and far between by December. We as a country can become just that once more and forget for another few years about who is in the Red State and who is in the Blue State, who is against who, because we are all after all Americans.

At the end of the day, no matter who wins you can find some satisfaction in the idea that, it can only get better from here. Look at who’s shoes the winner will have to fill after all.

Was Sarah Palin the first Governer to react to Climate change?

Gov. PALIN’ Claim : “We have got to encourage other nations to come along with us with the impacts of climate change, what we can do about that. As governor I was the first governor to form a climate change subcabinet to start dealing with the impacts.”

Lets look at the facts:

Gov. Palin was not the first Governer to act on climate change or even to reorganize her cabinet in an effort to deal with the climate.

The first Governer to start to deal with climate changes did so in January of 2007. That Governer was Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, who began Sweeping Cabinet Reorganization to Deal With Climate Change. “The challenge of climate change illustrates vividly the need to integrate energy and environmental policy,” added Governor Patrick, who has begun a sweeping Cabinet reorganization that combines energy and environmental affairs agencies into a single secretariat.” “Today, my Administration takes its first step to set Massachusetts on a new course toward a clean energy future,” said Governor Patrick. Neveada was the second state to have climate become a policy issue with the creation of the Climate Committee in April, 2007. On April 10, 2007, “Governor Jim Gibbons today signed an executive order creating the Nevada Climate Change Advisory Committee and named its 13 members. The Committee is tasked with making recommendations to the Governor on reducing Nevada’s greenhouse gas emissions.” [State of Nevada Press Release , 4/10/07]

By May 10th of 2007, 29 States had Taken Action On Climate Change. Alaska was not one of them. Florida joined 30 other states this week in a consortium that will measure and jointly track greenhouse gas emissions by major industries. Peterson said 29 other states have come up with plans to deal with climate change, but Florida has not been one of them. However, Sink predicted that will quickly change. Gov. Charlie Crist has a strong interest in the issue, she said, noting that he wants to put solar panels on the Governor’s Mansion and tools around Tallahassee in a car fueled by ethanol.  [St. Petersburg Times, Craig Pittman Author:  5/10/07 ]

Governer Sarah Palin Created a Subcabinet on Climate Change In SEPTEMBER 2007. According to a press release, “Governor Sarah Palin today signed Administrative Order 238 establishing a sub-cabinet to prepare a climate change strategy. [Palin press release, 9/14/07]

Looks like she was a few months too late to be the first, or even among the first to do any such thing. Sounds like another one of her famous Palinisims.

More Fact checking on its way.
